Fantine in Les Miserables

Do you know a charming and good woman in Paris? Here is Fantine. She is so pretty. She has only one daughter, Cosette. She doesn’t have a good relationship with people. She doesn’t have anything; money, friend, husband and hope of the future. Even, she is unemployed.

Fantine was very poor, so she left Cosette in the care of Monsieur and Madame Thenardier. For example on page 7, chapter 2. She had to pay some money instead of the desire. Before she left her daughter with Madame Thenardier, she couldn’t work because people didn’t hire single mother’s, like her. After she left her daughter with Madame Thenardier, she could got a job. She toilfully made money to send to Madame Thenardiers for her daughter. She cut her hair in order to make money in page 9, chapter 2. She was taken with a disease because she worked too hard. she entered a hospital, and she died. Before she died, she required Jean Valjean to take care of Cosette in page 15, chapter 2.

I thought the book was very exciting because this book’s storyline was touching and tensional. The more I read, the deeper I got carried away. Especially, I was very impressed by Fantine. In a difficult situation, she wasn’t pessimistic. She was devotional and didn’t know abandonment. This book taught many things to me

Elepahnt Man- Merrick

Elephant Man’s name was Joseph Merrick. He had an ugly face and body. For example, on page 4, chapter 1, ‘ I see horrible, ugly thing every day. But this creature, this thing, was the worst of all. ’ He looked like elephant’s face.  He was very slow, because his legs were big on page 4~5, chapter 1 , ‘His legs were very big and fat, and he had a bad back.’ He had only a mother in his family, but she went missing. He had a good manners, and deep down he was quite nice. For example on page 18~20, chapter 4, ‘I was very angry with the nurse, and went to see Merrick. He was not happy about it, but he was not very angry. I think he felt sorry for the girl.’ This sentence shows an example of how is Merrick worried about others.

I though Merrick was an incapable man because he was unable to do without people. For example on page 29, Cheapter 6, ‘He was more like a child than a man. He could not go out of the hospital by himself.’ He had to do anything by hinself, even if he was ugly. Also, I though Merrick was mentally immature because he could not go out of the hospital by himself and he though that the theater acts were real in the theatre. For example on page 29 and 30, Chapter 6, ‘He thought and played like a child. ’ I thoght Dr. Frederick Treves was a very kind person because he changed Merrick’s life and people’s view about Merrick. People liked to visit  him. For example, on page 24, chapter 5, ‘A lot of important ladies and gentlemen visited him.’

Yes, Man  – Carl

Do you know Carl who always said  “No”? He always thought negatively. His job was judging one's qualifications for a loan in the bank. He lived alone. He was skinny and had short brown hair. He had three friends and no girlfriend. He was neither tall nor small. He had an indifference relationship with his surrounding people. From my point of view, he had no soul.

 

One day, Carl’s old friend suggested some conference and he took part in the conference. The conference was about saying ‘Yes’. Carl promised to say ‘Yes’ instead of ‘No’ in there. Before Carl promised that, he didn’t know about his best friend. He forgot his friend’s engagement. Oneday, his boss canceled his promotion, but he made nothing of it. After Carl promised that, Carl’s life was changed. He always said ‘Yes’ in every situation. Gradually, he turned into ‘Yes man’. He learned to play guitar and to speak Korean. He even learned how to fly an airplane. Finally, he fell in love with a beautiful woman. After he became 'Yes Man', most important thing was that he concerned himself with surrounding people.

Carl has a positive mind, so he will live the diametrical life. In his company, his business will work out fine because his colleagues will like him. He will be magnanimous to everyone, so he will have many friends. Carl and his girlfriend will have a good relationship. They will share their hobby just like old times. He will help pessimistic people like he was.

An Experience that Changed My Life

When I was 20 years old, I found life and energy. I adopted a brown puppy. In fact, the puppy looked so cute that I bought him for no reason. After I bought the puppy he added energy to my life. At home, I spent too much time playing computer games, but after he came I didn’t. Before the cute puppy came my family’s conversation was bad. After he came, we were so harmonious. When my father came home from the office he was always tired, but because of the puppy my father always laughed because the puppy acted charming to my father. When I lived with my puppy, I felt life had value.  I learned animal life is equaled to human life, this is important. Any school can’t teach this. Eventually, my cute puppy changed our family, and I know that he is our family too.

I’d Like to Introduce Mong!

I’d like to tell you about my puppy. My puppy’s name is Mong. Mong is 2 years-old and he is a dark brown toy poodle. His size is very small, so he is very cute. He looks small, but he is very active!

One day he ate detergent, so I was shocked. I took him to the hospital. He had his stomach pumped and injected ringer. I was sad because he suffered torment. Later, he got better and then I received a medical fee. I was very surprised because the medical fee was 200,000 won!

My name is Byung Hyun Jo. I am 23 years-old, and I am from Chang-won City in Gyeongsangnam-do. I did military duty in Gangwon-do  last year. This year, I returned to college so I am so happy. I have one older brother and two parents. My parents are working in Chang-won and my brother is working in Seoul. Sometimes, my brother sends pocket money to me, so I always appreciate him. 

I like to listen to music and play soccer. Naturally, I like to watch soccer games, too. However, I hurt my leg so I can’t play soccer these days. When my leg is better, you  will see me play soccer with my friends. Jazz comforts my heart. So, nothing is better than Jazz to me.
